Our Carbon Footprint

DNV KEMA’s carbon footprint reflects the greenhouse gas emissions of the organization, its employees, office buildings and laboratories

One of the most effective ways to contribute to the reduction of global warming is to measure, analyze and reduce your carbon footprint. DNV KEMA’s carbon footprint reflects the greenhouse gas emissions of the organization, its employees, office buildings and laboratories. Focusing on our carbon footprint allows us to review the status quo and track improvements.

Our current carbon footprint mainly consists of emissions from business travel by train, car and plane, and from the use of office and laboratory facilities (especially our high-power laboratory facilities). It is our aim to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions with respect to the carbon footprint levels at the end of 2010. All offices and departments are responsible for investigating and implementing methods to reduce carbon emissions.

The Sustainability Fund

To offset our carbon footprint, we have established a Sustainability Fund. This fund will support innovative projects originated by employees that contribute to our sustainability efforts and present promising business opportunity. Furthermore, this approach enables us to select the projects that offer the highest impact, and potentially higher impact than external carbon offset programs.

Our carbon footprint derives to a large extent from the activities in our high-power laboratory where we test and certify medium- and high-voltage components for our clients. The footprint mainly consists of the energy used for testing as well as the possible emissions of Sulfur Hexafluoride Gas (SF6), which is used during the testing process in the laboratory. This carbon footprint has been reduced substantially by strictly managing the handling of SF6 and by using more sustainable energy sources to power the labs.
