Flow laboratory

Flow Laboratory

KEMA's flow laboratory specializes in flow research and calibration at medium/high pressures, and transport behavior of dust in pipelines and liquids in gas

Flow tests & calibrations
To ensure the correct operation of all components in a natural gas pipeline system, it is crucial to perform flow tests and calibrations under circumstances close to operational conditions. Gas meters based on various principles, regulators, fluid and dust separators, mufflers and complete city gate stations are all examples of components that can be put to the test at the KEMA Flow Laboratory in Groningen. This laboratory has state-of-the-art facilities for performing flow research and calibrations at medium/high pressures for investigating, developing and improving industrial processes and innovative energy utilization systems.

Calibration & research facility
The facility was built in series with a city gate station for gas deliveries to the city of Groningen. It serves as a calibration and research facility with natural gas at pressures from 9 bar(a) up to 40 bar(a) and flow rates up to 36,000 m3n/ hr, depending on the season. It is a flexible installation in which a variety of measurement set-ups can be built. For calibration & testing we can accomodate pipe spools of 25 mm up to 250 mm. Contact us for more detailed information about calibration and testing possibilities.
