Gas interchangeability

Gas Interchangeability

KEMA's gas interchangeability experts perform state-of-the-art analyses of combustion behavior of end-use equipment, propose scientifically sound quality specifications and advise on gas appliance modifications

Interchangeability
An important aspect of gas quality is interchangeability. This concerns the combustion behavior of different gas mixtures in end-use equipment. Changes in gas composition, by introduction of “new” natural gases, biogases or hydrogen, can cause the combustion behavior to change. It is important that the safety and the fitness-for-purpose of the end user’s gas equipment be guaranteed no matter which gases are being distributed. Using its extensive fundamental knowledge of combustion processes and our combustion laboratory, KEMA:

  • analyses the consequences of the changing composition of gaseous fuels
  • proposes acceptable variations in gas quality as a basis for gas specifications
  • advises how gas appliances can be modified to accommodate a wider range of gas qualities.
