Safety & Reliability
KEMA's safety and reliability specialists calculate the risks and establish the risk contours of gas pipelines and installations
In general there are two main causes for incidents occurring in relation with gas transport: damage caused by third parties and damage to the pipeline through corrosion or material defects. Our specialists calculate the risks and establish the risk contours around pipelines or installations. Regulations on external safety are strongly influenced by a few major industrial incidents.
KEMA has been closely involved in the realization of national legislation for gas transmission systems and the development of corresponding calculation methods. The Safety and Reliability group provides a.o. the following services:
Qualitative risk assessments (HAZOP, FMECA)
Quantitative risk assessments (QRA) for gas pipelines and installations (e.g. for environmental impact reports, permits or the Dutch Risk Register (RRGS))
Incident analysis
Reliability studies for gas networks
